Daily Pages: Prompts = Lifesavers (especially on headache days)

One photo, three thoughts, and a gentle way to keep showing up

Today was for some messy painting and a Thursday3 with an old photo.

It’s prime headache time—so I wasn’t in any place to think of something new or fun or interesting today. When I’m feeling braindead, I rely on my prompts. I have 1-2 for each day of the week. Monday is always Currently List, and Thursday is Thursday3.

I’ve got a stack of old selfies that I need to get into books, so that’s what I’ve been pulling every Thursday instead of stressing myself out and trying to print out some current photographs.

It’s just one way I’m bringing ease into my creativity right now.

Technique of the Day

I pulled out some watercolors today and made the background paper on some Hanshi paper that I picked up at Daiso when I was home last year.

Whenever I’m using watercolors, I pull out my StazOn Ink. It dries immediately, it doesn’t bleed, and it’s nice and bold. It stands up perfectly to these high quality watercolors. All the extra pigment doesn’t cover up the black ink, which is exactly what we’re going for.

I obviously made a little bit more of a mess with this than I was planning to. I literally stuck my whole fist right into the wet paint and smeared it right on the page. My bad. To make it look intentional, I added a bunch of paint splatters to give the whole thing a very artsy look. I’m happy with the way the full spread turned out.

When your brain is foggy and you're just not up for something new, having go-to prompts like Thursday3 can make all the difference. It's an easy way to keep showing up without overthinking it.

Pro Tip: Keep a short list of your favorite prompts (here’s mine) nearby for tough days—they can carry your practice when you’re running on fumes.
