Daily Pages: Playing with New Supplies

Paint, stickers, and other new stuff

I mentioned that I went out to Detroit last week and picked up a bunch of supplies at Blick—so you’re going to see a lot of them over the next few weeks. Lots of new paint colors, lots of new paint styles, big black bold markers.

I’m a huge fan of starting to play with supplies in my Daily Pages notebook almost as soon as I get them. It makes new stuff feel so much less precious, and I can get started on the learning process to figure out how it’s going to work best for me.

PS—I had an amazing chat today with

about all things creativity. Come check it out and tell us that we should do it again soon :)

The Creative Process with Kristin + Mansi

Thanks so much to everyone who joined me and Mansi live this week! Whether you were there live or catching up now, I’m so glad we got to share space and talk about the messy, joyful, and human side of creativity.

Technique of the Day

I got these vinyl stickers from the clearance section at Blick, and since I was just going for a background look—I didn’t care that they were all going to show up backwards on the finished product, I just wanted to play around a bit.

Once I get all the stickyness off the letters/numbers, I’ll start using them backwards on the gelli plate, which will make them look right side up on the finished pull. But, that’s definitely a few weeks down the line. So expect those to show up in a bunch of stuff too!

Enjoy your supplies! Have fun! Do cool stuff with your art.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Contrast Makes It Pop

I used black stamping to contrast with the vibrant background, and it made everything feel more grounded and cohesive.

Pro Tip: When you’ve got lots of color and movement, a little bit of crisp black or white can give the eye a place to rest—and tie the whole spread together.
