Oh boy—it got cold here in Michigan. We got a few inches of snow over the weekend, and I love seeing the backyard all dressed in white. Unfortunately, that means it’s definitely cold season, and I’m living in my flannels.
I’m still in the middle of moving everything around my studio, making more room for all my stuff, so it’s been nice to create pages with whatever I’ve got on my desk at the moment. Today it was a sheet of tracing paper with some yellow paint on it. I love the way it looks with the grid lines from the notebook showing through.
Technique of the Day
To create today’s page, I added a big stamp to the top of the tracing paper, and then added in this great passage from Brandi Kincaid. I think it’s really great for everyone, so I’m going to type it out in full below:
You are not your job, or your family, or that awkward thing you said last week. You are not your pant size or your bank account, or that trophy you won in high school. You are not the hobby you bought all the supplies for but never started, or all the projects you did start, but never finished. You are not the mean thing you thought about yourself, or the mean thing you had to apologize for saying to someone else. You are not the big win or the big flop, both of those are too easy for someone as beautifully messy and nuanced as you. You are so many things, but never any one thing. You are here, human, whole, and trying.
I’m a huge fan of cutting up these quote passages and pasting them into my notebook. You can pull these things from art prints, postcards, magazines, or even type them out on the computer and print them out. It’s a great way to bring some really beautiful words into your journal—especially on days where your brain isn’t up for coming up with beautiful words all on your own.
