Daily Pages: Yayoi Kusama Inspo

Thinking about shapes and repetition

Today’s page was inspired by an idea I had for this month’s Book of Me lesson over in my Feminist Scrapbook School course. We’re learning all about Yayoi Kusama and her idea of shapes in repetition. After spending so much time researching her work over the past few months, I’ve been thinking about all the different ways in which I want to take her approach to color and shape and bring it into my work.

Technique of the Day

I took the Sharpie Creative Markers (or one of them at least lol) and started making some big red circles on the gel plate. I need to get my hands on the new color series, they’re in my Blick cart, but I just haven’t pulled the trigger.

I let the red paint blobs dry, added in some white paint on top and pulled the print to get this Kusama-inspired background. Fun and easy.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

🔴 Paint First, Then Print

For today’s background, I put down some red blobs of paint and used my heat gun to let it dry on the gel plate. This creates a layered, dimensional print once the final color is added and pulled.

Pro Tip: Let the base layer dry completely before pulling the print with a second color to get strong, clean shapes and crisp contrast.
