I was into cleaning shit up today (if you watch the full video, you can see how I clean my scissors, which is incredibly tactile-y satisfying). I’ve been working behind the scenes on the Organization Week event that we’re having at The Awesome Ladies Project in June, and that’s got me wanting to organize everything around me.
In addition to the scissors, I wanted to clean off my gel plate—there was a bunch of leftover bits on there from my previous few sessions. I absolutely love what came off the plate.
Technique of the Day
Today’s page could not have been any easier. I grabbed a thicker paint (they work better for pulling up all the paint off the gel plate) and spread it all over the full plate. I gave it a few minutes to dry—that’s when I cleaned my scissors and picked out this fun poem from a Brandi Kincade mailing.
Once the paint was dry, I pulled the print, and I couldn’t have gotten something this good if I purposefully tried to. This was all about the magic of using a monoprint surface. Sometimes there’s just cool weird shit lying around that will end up on a page.
I trimmed my print, and added the poem. I really do love how this one came out. It’s the quintessential art journaling page.

Tips & Creative Wisdom
Embrace the Monoprint Magic
The gel plate is full of surprises. You won’t always know what you’re pulling until it’s on the paper—and that’s the fun.
Pro Tip: Let weird textures and ghost layers become your next fav background.
