Daily Pages: Simple Mind Map Journaling

One of my favorite journaling techniques

Today’s page was simple and easy—I finished it up in about 15 minutes. I spent the rest of today’s time talking about my December project—so if that’s something you’re interested in, definitely check out the full video. I’ll be chatting more about that project in a few weeks in one of the Saturday newsletters.

I’ve got tons of photos just hanging out around my desk—still waiting to be a little more organized. I’m not really sure how I’m organizing them yet, so they’re just parked right on my desk.

Technique of the Day

So, for today’s page, I grabbed one of the photos right off the top—it was a fall inspired photos of a bunch of fall pumpkins and gourds. I decided that I’d use this photo as inspiration for a fun mind-map style journaling page.

This style is one of my favorite journaling techniques when I want to get a bunch of words down on the page, but I’m not in a place to write out paragraphs of journaling—or when the page doesn’t really fit that style of journaling.

I start with something in the middle. Most of the time it’s a photo, sometimes I’ll swap it out with an art card or a sticker. Then I’ll create some spaces for journaling around the outer edges. Today I used these little dot stickers to mark my spots before adding little arrows.

I grabbed a fall-inspired stamp set and stamped out my title “Fall feels like” and used that as the beginning prompt for all my journaling. I started in the upper left corner and wrote out a bunch of different things that make me think of all the fall feelings.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Mind Maps = Instant Flow

Mind-map journaling is the perfect balance between writing and doodling—organized chaos that gets your thoughts on paper fast.

Pro Tip: Start with something visual in the middle—a photo, sticker, or quote—and let your words branch out naturally from there.
