We’re getting to the end of October! I’ve got my Halloween candy out—I’ve still got to set up some Halloween decor, but honestly I’ve been so preoccupied by moving around stuff in the house, that putting out seasonal decorations has been the last thing on my mind.
We usually don’t get that many trick-or-treaters, but we do have the candy ready, so we can spoil the ones that do come by. But more than anything I’m trying to organize all the baby stuff that keeps getting delivered, people are being so amazing and getting us the best stuff off our baby registry. I’m also super glad that I already got thank you cards made (even if they’re currently sitting at my mom’s house until the shower next month).
This weekend we’re going to finish cleaning out the baby room so next weekend we can paint and put together the furniture we’ve already got. Our nursery theme is garden, and I’m excited to start putting it together—even if it winds up being the only room in my house that’s clean.
Technique of the Day
For today’s page, I started out with a pumpkin outline stamp and created a fun repeating background. To color them all in, I grabbed my watercolor colored pencils, but didn’t bother using the watercolor aspect on this thinner paper. I used three different colors, two oranges that are similar, and a darker yellow to give it a little bit more interest. I love having a big stack of colored pencils for adding a bit of color here and there. You don’t always have to add water to your watercolor pencils—just use them like you would regular colored pencils!
To finish up the page, I added a little trick or treat stamp and some little mark making stamps. A fun and simple title for my repeating background page.

Tips & Creative Wisdom
Dry First, Paint Later (or Never)
Watercolor pencils don’t have to be wet to shine. Sometimes their dry texture gives exactly the look your page needs.
Pro Tip: Use watercolor pencils like regular colored pencils on thinner paper to avoid warping or bleeding.
