I woke up early this morning (huge fan of early mornings in the summer—not so much in the winter) and went out to the secret garden. It’s this little bit of space between the house and the garage. That window on the far end is the backside of our entryway, so you can see right into the secret garden when you walk into the house, but you can only access it via a sliding glass door in another room.
We put the patio pavers in last spring, and it was a huge upgrade. I love that I can go out there without shoes on in the morning. The warm stones feel amazing on my feet. While I was out there this morning I decided to move around some patio furniture and pulled in a new chair so I can sit out there for my morning reading.
I’ve got lots of fun plans for this little space over the next few years, so stay tuned for more fun photos like the one below and the one in today’s page.
Technique of the Day
I’m still playing around with all the new paints that I picked up at Blick last Friday. Eventually, I’ll get links for all the specific paints here in the newsletter, but that takes a little bit more brainpower than I’ve got on this 87 degree afternoon.
I’m always on the lookout for a pen that’s going to write well on top of the acrylic paint (or any other slick surface). When I was out last week, I picked up one of my favorites—a Sakura Microperm. It worked much better on the flat orange color than it did on the more textured yellow, which was an interesting discovery.
Learning little things like that is exactly why I love playing around with new supplies in my Daily Pages notebook, it makes it so much easier to see what works well together before I go to make something where I care about the end result.
