So, I was hanging out in the kitchen yesterday evening, working on my tomato seeds, when suddenly—out of nowhere—my head started pounding. A sudden onset of that much pain is pretty unusual for me. Sure, my headaches can come and go pretty quickly but I usually have at least a few minutes of warning before the pain sets in. But yesterday, it just hit me. So, I went to the cabinet and grabbed some meds, got a glass of water, and by the time I sat back down to tend the seeds, the tornado sirens started wailing.
Yeah. Not great. Luckily we didn’t have any storm damage or flooding in our neighborhood. Lots of downed trees and powerlines, but nothing permanent. Unfortunately, a storm like this (and the tornado sirens going for an hour) are brutal for my head.
Which means today I’m feeling like crap. But that’s alright. It’s getting warmer, I got my seeds done, and it’s almost time to start spending lots more time outside every day. I love the warmer months. I just don’t love the transition into getting there.
Technique of the Day
Today I cut up another new Brandi art print. Originally, I thought I’d just add some of her doodles to the page, across from a Currently List card, but then I realized there were great little illustrations for every single prompt, so I just went with that instead.
This week’s Currently List:
Watching:
The Residence (enjoyed this a lot, I hope they make more). AP Bio is the show we’ve got on in the kitchen these days. It’s so funny. It has such a hilarious cast. I’m a sucker for Patton Oswalt too.
I’ll watch this week’s Righteous Gemstones tonight. I’m really loving Megan Mulally on there and I’m excited to see where this season goes with everyone wrapping up their stories. I’m hoping we get at least one wedding, if not two weddings (maybe at the same time).
Reading:
I listened to the first two books in the
trilogy over the weekend. Really great to have him reading the books while I was playing a new game and journaling on the ipad.I’ve also been listening to LotR to fall asleep, and as an audio listener, I’ve got thoughts on this Tom Bombadil. And I listened to a few books about food as well, Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat has been my favorite.
Listening:
Apple’s new classical music app. Still the Arcane soundtrack. And a bunch of different playlists that I’ve been putting together—the latest one is piano covers.
Making:
I do a lot of cooking/food prep over the weekend. I dried some peppers and made paprika—same with onions and onion powder. I made a trimmed down pork shoulder roast for dinner last night, and then made a few pounds of sausage with the trimmings.
In addition to the raw food and dinner prep, I got a bunch of seeds planted yesterday. about 75 or so each of peppers and tomatoes. I bunch of different stuff. Lots of different peppers, and even more tomatoes—mostly smaller ones and romas.
Feeling:
Headache (as mentioned before). Tired. Hopeful.
Planning:
Loving:
The new game I’ve been playing.
Also spring produce.

Tips & Creative Wisdom
On Bad Days, Keep the Habit Light
On headache days or low-spoons days, the goal is just to keep the creative thread going. No need for a masterpiece—just show up, put something down, and call it a day.
Pro tip: Keep a few go-to page formats (like a Currently List or Thursday3) in your back pocket for days when your brain needs a break from decision-making.
