Daily Pages: Currently Figuring it Out

What's going on this week

Hey friends—This Daily Pages newsletter has been my dropped ball, all summer long. I’ve mentioned a few times how this season has been an extra hard one on my headaches and my body—so I’m not sitting at my computer desk (or even getting to my scrap desk) nearly as much as usual.

Since we’re finally getting a bit of cool weather, and I know a bunch of you love when I dive into the behind the scenes stuff, I thought I’d write out the process that goes into getting these little newsletters out to you each day. But if that’s not you—feel free to skip down to all the good Daily Pages details down below.

There’s a bunch of moving parts to getting this newsletter out, and whenever something slows down, it throws a wrench in the rest of the process.

First, I have to actually get to my desk and make the page and record the video—something that has happened less frequently this summer than any time since I’ve started. My health took a nosedive this summer, and I was dealing with a lot of on and off sick days where I just couldn’t make it to my desk.

Second, I have to take the recording and then convert the full Daily Pages session video. For the most part, it’s pretty easy, I just press a few buttons, and I’ve got it set up to do everything I need. The only issue is that it takes time. Hands-off time for me, but time that needs to elapse before the next part gets done.

While that’s happening, I usually write up the words in the newsletter. Whether it’s a little note about the day, or something extra about the page. I try to get that done while everything is fresh in my mind.

The big roadblock I’ve been running into this season—it’s been *crazy* hot in my studio by the time my Daily Pages session is winding down. There’s no a/c in this room, and the sun hits the back of the house and really heats everything up.

At the same time, the computer needs all it’s processing power to convert and mess around with the video stuff. So it’s blowing out super hot air right onto my legs, it’s already 85-ish degrees in here, and it’s impossible to think and get you out my thoughts and feelings on the day.

Not to mention, I like taking care of my things, especially my tech. So I don’t like pushing it’s capabilities in the hot temps. It’s just not a great idea if you care about the longevity of your machines (which I really do).

Now that the temperatures are not in the 90s everyday, with the sun beating down on the back of the house, I’m hoping I can get myself back into the swing of getting these newsletters out to you every weekday.

Technique of the Day

This week’s Currently List:

Watching:

Top Chef (I’m almost caught up with the current/latest season). Psych and Parks and Rec for background shows. Also loving Foundation too.

Reading:

Nothing except some cookbooks. I’ve been trying books and just DNFing them for the past few weeks. Idk if it’s them or me

Listening:

Audiobooks—nothing really exciting.

Making:

Bread + tomatoes forever.

We had a great tomato harvest this year and I’ve made some great stuff with the yield. This weekend I made some focaccia with cherry tomatoes for BLTs. Great stuff.

Feeling:

Annoyed at the state of book publishing (this was our big discussion today during Daily Pages).

Planning:

All the different food that we’re gonna have on our trip back home. I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be the only thing in the scrapbook.

Loving:

The cooler weather. Clearly lol.
