Daily Pages: Creating an Insert to Add a Page

I needed one extra page in this notebook

Today was technically the last page in my Daily Pages notebook. I started this one at the beginning of the month, and it’s been my spooky season notebook—filled with all sorts of Halloween inspired pages. I decided that I needed to finish out the month in this book—I didn’t want to start a new book on Halloween when all my spooky season stuff was already in this notebook. So to fix this issue, I decided to add in an insert into the last page to give me space for today and tomorrow.

Technique of the Day

To make today’s page, I grabbed a sheet of orange cardstock and cut it down to size. Since I’m in the back of the notebook, the pages are getting a little bit tighter, so I cut my sheet of cardstock to about 6.5 inches instead of the usual 7” I would do if I were in the front of the notebook. This size actually wound up working out perfectly (even though I made the page upside down and needed to glue it onto the right side, instead of the left side that I was planning to use. No big deal—I’ll just create my page for tomorrow over on the left and finish up the book that way.

This is a great technique any time you want to add any extra pages to your notebook. I used orange cardstock because it was the Halloween color paper I had on hand, but you can do this with any type of paper—patterned papers, gel prints, extra scraps you’ve got lying around—it all works.

I added in some extra strong adhesive since the pages at the back of the book bend a lot more, I didn’t want anything popping up and causing an issue down the line. Yes, this notebook is gonna wind up being super thick—but that’s totally okay, it’s still holding together and working just fine.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Add a Page, Add a Story

Running out of room doesn’t mean you have to stop creating. Inserts are an easy way to squeeze in those last pages.

Pro Tip: Cut your add-in sheet just a little smaller than your usual page. It’ll turn smoothly and sit nicely inside your notebook.
