Your Creative Habit: It's a Marathon, not a Sprint
There’s no rush. Enjoy the scenery.
No Daily Pages email today — I had some medical tests I had to get done, so today was a sick day and I took the day off from Daily Pages. But I wanted to keep in touch, so here’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while. Back again tomorrow with another page!
Have you ever thought about how much we learn about ourselves when we're not even trying? Like when you're baking your favorite dinner and realize you've memorized the recipe, or when you're texting your bff about your day and you suddenly understand why a that specific moment stood out. That's what a creative practice does. It helps you see the patterns in your likes and dislikes, your highs and lows, almost like a mirror reflecting back your true creative self.
But here's a little secret: it’s not a race against the clock. You know those days when you're under the weather, or when life just throws you a curveball?1 Daily Pages understands. It's not a relentless taskmaster, demanding your attention rain or shine. It's more like a patient friend, always there when you're ready. You don't abandon a friend because you missed a coffee date, right? Same goes for your creative habit. It’s important that you live your life, so that you have things to art and craft about.
I like think of Daily Pages as my personal cheerleader, minus the pompoms. My notebook there on the sidelines, encouraging me, whether I'm sprinting full speed or taking a leisurely stroll. And that's the kind of relationship you'll build with your notebook, too. It's flexible, forgiving, and most importantly, it adapts to your rhythm, not the other way around.
You know, sometimes when I sit down with my notebook after missing a few days, I feel like I'm catching up with an old friend. I tell it about the days I missed (hello Currently Monday), the little triumphs, the unexpected challenges.
And that's what I'm here to help you with. Together, we'll explore ways to make a creative practice of telling your story work for you. We'll find your style, your pace, and your voice.
So, let's embark on this marathon together, with plenty of water breaks and scenic routes. Let’s make crafting our creative habits a journey of joy, discovery, and personal growth.
I love having you here on this journey with me.
xoxo,
K
Curveballs can be good or bad! Like when you find out a work deadline got pushed up to this afternoon, and you’ve got to drop your to-do list in the trash OR when your bestie calls you up and asks if you want to get lunch and talk about the latest Fourth Wing theories and you gladly drop your to-do list in ‘get to it tomorrow’ folder.
TodAY'S DP was like a conversation with a long time friend...who gets you. It was cold (even here) and it's been fourteen years since my mom died and it feels like a blink. I miss telling her things, yaknow. And so I told my pages. She would have loved art journaling and this creative journey I am on. Mwah!
