You Are Already Telling Your Story
There are so many ways in which storytelling pops up in our everyday life.
If you aren't explicitly looking for it or if no one has ever told you, 'hey, that's a method of storytelling!', you might not even realize it's happening.
5 ways in which telling stories might be popping up in your everyday life:
1. Social Media
If you're reading this right now, odds are you're on a social media network where you're sharing some form of your life. Even if you just comment on other people's posts, you're sharing something about yourself, if only a 'like' or a 'heart'.
2. Your Planner/Calendar
When you write out what you've got planned for the day/week/year, you are writing the story of what's up in your life. Sure, sometimes it might not be the most interesting story, but it's absolutely putting in the work, especially when you zoom out to a macro-level.
3. Photographs
We're all walking around with cameras in our pockets snapping photos of the things that we care about. These pictures are telling stories about the things that matter to us. Yes to food, yes to selfies with friends, yes to screenshots of memes.
4. Texts/DMs
This is where so many of my stories start. When something exciting/happy/sad/weird happens, I grab my phone and text my friends with exactly what just went down. Even though they might be short, these are my stories.
5. Actual Human Conversation
You are telling stories when you're just talking to other people. "Oh, the other day I saw...", "This one time my..." all those conversations? Those are all stories. Just talking to people, you are telling your stories.
