What’s Your Favorite Color Combo Right Now?
Here’s Mine — I’m just loving these three colors put together.
Behind the Page
I’m in a rut today. I’ve lost my iPad mini, and I’ve been tearing my house apart trying to find it :/. So for today’s page, I needed something that would be a little fun, help me straighten up my desk, and take my mind off of things.
I had a strip of pink scrap paper lying on my desk and decided that was the perfect starting point. I love making these background strip pages — one because I’ve got lots of amazing strips. This is partially because the size of the Field Notes notebook is equal to half a letter size paper, minus 1.5” inches in the width.
So lots of times, I’ll take a sheet of letter paper, cut it in half, and use that as a Daily Pages background paper. Whether it’s a gel print, stamped background, or something else entirely — a half sheet of paper is where I love to start. It makes things simple and then I also get lots of these great strips perfectly sized for making a strip background in my notebook.
Technique of the Day
I’m starting to gear up for the month of color coming up on Saturday! When I grabbed the first pink strip of paper this afternoon, I started to think about what colors I wanted to pull into my background.
I’m a big fan of pinks with warm colors — oranges, reds, yellows; but today I leaned on the cooler side of things and went with blue and purple. When I’m making one of these strip backgrounds, I try to stick to 3-4 colors to keep things from looking a total mess. When you’re playing with different patterns and textures, I personally like to keep my color count low. I think everything tends to play nicer with each other.
Reflections & Insights
On Scrap Organization — I keep these little strips separate from my other scraps. That way I can put these pages together easily and not have to first sort by size, and then by color/design/pattern. This also makes it super easy to put away all the strips after I dump them out on my desk to sort through them.
Also — I am rewatching Game of Thrones, and I do have a lot of feelings about it. I skipped the first season and went directly into season two (after trying to rewatch twice before and not making it past the first season either time). I’m in the middle of season three right now, and man are some of these episodes so great. It’s the little things. Love the little things.
