Day #9: Behind the Page

This morning, I got the idea to try out magazine pages with my gel plate. I haven’t really done this too many times, and never super successfully, so my expectations weren’t super high. And honestly, if I had picked a better background color, this whole page would have turned out so much better. But alas, I went with red, and then green, which I thought would work (holiday, right?); but really just made the whole thing a little creepy.

Lesson learned. Next time, I’ll do a white background instead of trying to mix the colors. I think I’ll be able to master that pretty quickly, but I need to get that down before I try mixing and matching any colors.

Technique of the Day

It was so great that I had my Currently List to cover up the weirdest parts of my background page. I added a bunch of other bits and scraps to give it a little more of a collage feel.

This week’s Currently List:

Watching:

Sabrina Carpenter’s Christmas special was so much fun. Definitely for adults, and not really family friendly, it was hilarious and filled with excellent music (idk about the Shania Twain).

Interior Chinatown is still awesome. I love a show that rewards you for paying slight attention.

I’m continuing my annual re-watch of Crash Landing on You. It’s one of my favorite shows of all time and so worth the time it takes to watch it.

Reading:

I’ve got a bunch of random kindle unlimited books download, but I haven’t started any of them yet. I’m gonna try to make the most of my free KU sub for the next three months. This is what I wrote last week, and it’s still where I’m at lol.

Listening:

The Fourth Wing dramatic audio books (finished those up last night) and The Great Library series. I haven’t been listening to much music this week, all books all the time.

Making:

My Project Life (chronological scrapbook) album for this year. Over the weekend I got all my photos from June through November in the album. Now I need to go back, fill in some spaces, add journaling and embellishments and I’ll be all done.

For me, getting the photos from my phone into the album is the absolute hardest part. It’s a series of roadblocks in my brain, and it feels amazing to finally have that part done and give myself the space to just do the fun stuff now.

Feeling:

Pretty good. The weather has been pretty steady for the past few days, and it’s been nice to not have a dozen headaches throughout the day.

Planning:

Finishing up that Project Life album through November. I want that done by the end of this calendar year. It’s probably not going to get 100% done, but I’d be very pleased if I got up above 90% done.

Loving:

Community. <3

For those of you unfamiliar with December Daily Pages, it’s a mix of two creative traditions I love: Ali Edwards’ December Daily, a holiday storytelling project, and my own Daily Pages routine, a creative habit I’ve practiced since 2018. By blending these approaches, I’ve found a way to balance holiday cheer with the everyday joys of scrapbooking and storytelling.

Share your pages (and find inspiration!) in the Awesome Ladies Project app. I’ll be posting my pages there throughout the month.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Experiment Boldly—Learn Along the Way

Trying out new techniques, like using magazine pages with a gel plate, is all about embracing the process rather than expecting perfection. Every experiment teaches you something valuable, whether it’s how colors interact or which materials work best.

Pro Tip: Keep a notebook or add a sticky note to your page with quick notes about what worked and what you’d adjust next time. How does documenting lessons learned help build your creative confidence?
