Behind the Page

I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do today when I got to my desk (typical Monday for me). I had left a bunch of little tissue paper cuts on my desk last week after putting something else together and I thought, hey—these are fun, let’s just play around with this tissue paper and see what comes up. Either way, we’re gonna put a Currently List on it and write about what’s currently going on, so it doesn’t need to be perfect.

So I cut random bits off my tissue paper stickers (I’m going to do a quick video tutorial next time I put them together) and stuck them on the page. Some are fully stuck down, some lift up a little off the page. It’s a fun haphazard look—and I cleaned up a bunch of stuff off my desk. Win/win.

Technique of the Day

This week’s Currently List:

Watching:

Mythic Quest and Severance are the shows we’re watching week to week right now. We’ve also been watching a bunch of old school Iron Chef on YouTube in the evenings. Such good TV.

Reading:

A lot of substack articles around creativity. Here are a few links:

Listening:

I’ve got the Fourth Wing audiobooks going on during the day, I’m listening to the graphic audio version with all the music cues and sound effects, so that’s not something I can ever listen to while trying to fall asleep.

For falling asleep I’m listening to a Court of Mist and Fury. And for just music, I’ve had the Arcane soundtrack on repeat. It’s such good music. I’ve got the Sheryl Lee Ralph song stuck in my head today (yes, that Sheryl Lee Ralph).

Making:

I made a little cake yesterday from a Trader Joe’s mix. It was exactly what I needed after a long week.

I also made a mini Book of Me zine that you can get right here!

Feeling:

Headache-y today. It got warm real quick and then the temps are gonna drop again. This wonky getting-to-spring weather is the worst for my headaches, so I’m prepared, but it still kinda sucks.

Planning:

Layouts for my Book of Me class. I ordered all the photos and got all my notes written out. If you’d like to join us this year, check out the course — we start March 8th!

Loving:

All the updates I made to the ALP website over the weekend. Lots of great new upgrades for our Feminist Scrapbook School membership.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Tissue Paper Stickers = Low Effort, High Impact

Prepping tissue paper with adhesive backing (I like the scrapbook.com roll adhesive) turns it into instant sticker material, making it easy to create layered effects without dealing with wet glue messes or tearing paper.

Pro Tip: Keep a stash of tissue paper stickers in a variety of colors so you can quickly grab and play whenever inspiration strikes.
