Behind the Page

Oh, it’s been a time. Last week was a lot. Doctors, other doctors, travel, huge life changing decisions, weekend guests, a friend’s passing, house projects, and crazy weather changes. Not to mention, I was trying to document it all for Week in the Life. I feel like I did an acceptable job, and I have more than enough to put together a wonderful album. But it turns out when you have a lot of life going on, it’s so much harder to slow down and document the little things.

AND THAT’S OKAY. IT’S LITERALLY PART OF YOUR (my) STORY.

But also, damn am I glad that on Monday I use a Currently list to get all the random nonsense out of my head and clear my creative plate for the rest of the week. Using the journaling card on one side of the page still leaves me with the other side to fill up as I see fit. And today, I grabbed an art print from my friend Brandi — with the exact words I needed to hear today — and put it in my journal.

Technique of the Day

I’m really proud of how well I spaced this quote out. Too proud. It’s giving me a lot of joy. Still, now, even just looking at it in the picture, I’m so happy.

Let’s talk about how I did it. If you watch the full length video at the bottom, you’ll see me walk through the whole process as I’m doing it, but even if you only catch the sped-up video, you can see how I parse it all out.

First, I counted up the number of lines in my quote (18), then I counted the number of rows in the grid (26). Since I’m the weird kid who really loves fractions — it was easy to see that if I subtracted the top and bottom rows, I’d have 24 rows to put 18 lines in. Which means that I had three rows in my grid for every two lines of the quote.

I added some scrapbook.com roll adhesive to the back of this quote (used to be a 5x7 art print) from Brandi Kincade to make it easier to cut and stick everything down easily, and then started cutting up the full quote, one line at a time.

Putting it down one line at a time is helpful — especially when you have a tendency to mix up some of the lines in a quote when cutting them up and putting them down again.

BTW — quote shuffle + upside down page creators are part of an illustrious club of creative humans, and you’re always invited to join in on the fun.

Reflections & Insights

Aren’t those bathtub floral stickers so fun? I love using these pretty, but also super random, stickers on something like a Currently List page, where there’s no specific theme or story — just an organization of stuff. So it’s perfect for little stickers.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Brandi always has the best words, and today was one of those days where I really needed to hear something hopeful.

Here’s the full quote:

This is for those times when you’re not sure where you’re going, let alone how you’ll get there. This is for the times when the map is only a scrap, and you don’t know how to read it anyway. This is for the times when you decide to make it up as you go, when you realize no one else really has the answers, either. This is for the times when you take the hand of a stranger and make them a friend, because meandering was made to be better together. This is for the times when you realize every good habit begins with both a yes, and a no. This is for those times when you say yes. This is for those times when you say no. This is for the times when you try.
