Behind the Page
Ooops — I took a long ass nap in the middle of the afternoon today. Needing to rest in the afternoon has become a staple of the summer. As soon as we start getting into the hottest time of the day, my body demands to chill out.
That being said — learning about what my body needs (and then actually adapting to it) is an essential part of re-learning what it’s like to be a sick person. So moving forward — at least for the summer, I’m going to have these emails go out a little later in the evening. More around 7pm ET than the 5pm I was doing in the springtime.
Technique of the Day
I’ve been eyeing this sheet of patterned paper for a while now. It’s been in the front of one of my stacks of paper for the past few weeks. And since it’s multicolored, it didn’t really work for any of my pages last month.
This afternoon, I also grabbed an old Flow Magazine that I had and started flipping through to see if there was anything I wanted to use in today’s page. I came across this great Susan Sontag quote, and it had these little daisies on the page. I immediately grabbed the sheet of patterned paper and used it as the background for today’s page.
Reflections & Insights
Use the things you like. Don’t hoard them for the *perfect project*. More often than not, that mythical perfect project doesn’t ever manifest. When you use the things you love, you become a better artist. You become closer to your true artist self and you understand more of who you are as someone who creates things. It’s essential knowledge and it’s actually pretty easy to come upon. Just create with the stuff you love.
