Day #1: Behind the Page
This was legit the first day that I got out any of my December stuff at all. I’ve got this time M-F at Noon ET that I’m working on this project, and I didn’t feel a strong pull to get a bunch of stuff ready ahead of time (especially since Thanksgiving was so late this year).
So, first thing I did today was gather up all my December supplies, take some inventory, and organize things a little bit to make everything easy to use this month. One of the things I realized quickly was that I’ve got a TON of scraps. Lots of cut up holiday paper. I was of two minds on this:
I really wanted to have some non-traditional colors in my book this year, my traditional color palette was my least favorite thing about last year’s album.
I’ve been having such a fun time with collage and gel prints lately, that maybe I’ll lean into using what I’ve already got and clean up a bunch of the scraps I’ve got. If we move next year, I’d like to have a lot less stuff, so I’m all about using what I’ve got.
So where I landed — I’m definitely going to use up what I’ve got, and then add in some fun pinks, teals, and blues — that’s what is going to wind up matching a lot of my holiday decor anyway. So when I’m just having fun playing around (like today, with Currently List), I’m gonna enjoy collaging with what I’ve got in front of me.
Technique of the Day
Currently List was the best thing for today, and I’ll continue to do a Currently Page every Monday, even though technically this is my “Day 1/Sunday” page. It doesn’t matter what day it’s on, what matters is that I write one out on Mondays.
I spent a bunch of time going through my supplies and making the background collage, that I did not have a ton of time for decor. So a Currently List and a Brandi sticker were perfect to kick us off.
This week’s Currently List:
Watching:
Football. That snow game? Football in the snow is magic.
Bad Sisters. Yes please. I need to know what’s going to happen next.
Man on the Inside. So delightful. Ted Danson should be in every single Mike Schur show from now until eternity.
Interior Chinatown has been great.
I also restarted my annual re-watch of Crash Landing on You, and obviously I’m finding new things to love this time around too. It’s one of my absolute favorite shows of all time.
Reading:
I’ve got a bunch of random kindle unlimited books download, but I haven’t started any of them yet. I’m gonna try to make the most of my free KU sub for the next three months.
Listening:
The Fourth Wing dramatic audio books and The Great Library series. Also, starting to listen to some Christmas music. I started my 2024 Christmas playlist this weekend.
Making:
These December Daily Pages album. I’m being super fluid and flexible with it this year. I don’t have much prepped, and I’m just gonna go with my gut each day. I’m super excited to see how this album turns out.
Feeling:
Pretty good. Last week was a terrible headache week and I’m feeling so much better this week. Which is great, because I’ve got a bunch of writing to get done for the end of the year and writing is so much easier when my head isn’t throbbing and I’ve got ringing in my ear. Who knew?
Planning:
Christmas and the holiday season. There isn’t too much specific stuff I want to do (cookies, Crash Landing on You, Meijer Gardens). But there’s a bunch of cozy vibes that I’m ready to make happen. I’ve got a few xmas trees this year, and I’m excited to decorate the house for the season.
Loving:
The snow on the ground. It started snowing on Friday morning, and it’s been that perfect blend of all white snow on the ground but the roads are completely clear. Everything is super pretty outside and set the holiday vibes perfectly.
For those of you unfamiliar with December Daily Pages, it’s a mix of two creative traditions I love: Ali Edwards’ December Daily, a holiday storytelling project, and my own Daily Pages routine, a creative habit I’ve practiced since 2018. By blending these approaches, I’ve found a way to balance holiday cheer with the everyday joys of scrapbooking and storytelling.
Share your pages (and find inspiration!) in the Awesome Ladies Project app. I’ll be posting my pages there throughout the month.

Tips & Creative Wisdom
Start with a Supply Inventory
Gathering and organizing your supplies is a perfect way to start your December Daily Pages. By taking stock of what you already have, you can avoid overthinking and jump straight into creating. Leaning into what’s available can spark unexpected creativity and help clear out old materials.
Pro Tip: Group your scraps by color or theme to make collaging faster and more intuitive during busy days.
