Stars...and Stripes?

I didn't realize how much this was my version of the American flag until I looked at the pictures.

Behind the Page

Over the last few days, I’ve had this sheet of cardstock next to my desk. I was randomly putting some paint on it when I was bored. Today, I wanted to use it in my page. I thought big black images would look good splattered across the colors, and I grabbed my big stars and stamped all over the page. It needed something across the middle. so this ‘Smash the Patriarchy’ sticker was perfect. It popped off the page and gave it a subtle message.

It was only when I started writing today’s newsletter that I realized it’s a bunch of stars and stripes. The pink, and the blue, and the white — it didn’t even cross my mind. But. honestly? I love it.

Technique of the Day

I actually spent a lot of today’s session playing around with the different silver/white markers that I had in my stash. I wanted to see what each of them looked like on that black ink. I tried a silver sharpie on the big stars, and two different colors of metallic paint pens. The paint pens definitely worked better on the ink than the sharpie — so I’ll lean more heavily on those in the future

Reflections & Insights

I love that I have Daily Pages to use up the random papers that I make when I’m bored. Knowing that I have a place to use them — I don’t need to find the perfect scrapbook or art journal page — makes it so much easier to give myself the space to create them in the first place.

Use your notebook as a place to experiment. You’ve got 5 different red markers and you’re not sure which one looks best on white paper? Make a page about it.
