Freckled Fawn: Citrus Twist June 2016

Kit Highlights:

I absolutely love the colors in the Freckled Fawn: Citrus Twist June 2016  kit. They are so bright, so fun, and totally scream summer. The clear fruit/heart embellishments, the alphabet stickers, and the puffy circle stickers are my favorites this month.

Projects Created: 

With this kit I created three 6x8 layouts. I think this is an awesome size for single photo layouts, giving the photo prime placement on the page.

Selfie -- 6x8 Layout

In this layout, I used a 4x4 photograph (one of my #thursday3 selfies), mounted on a single sheet of 6x8 patterned paper. I used a minimal cluster of embellishments and I added my journaling directly to the photo.  To finish up, I added pops of bright pink and green from the Freckled Fawn: Citrus Twist June 2016 kit to give the otherwise very neutral color palette some feeling. 

Paper: 

The 6x8 black and white patterned paper is part of my new Awesome Ladies Feminist Scrapbook Collection. I'm a huge fan of black/white/pops of color, and developed this paper line specifically for layouts just like this. The black and white paper was the perfect background for the neutral photo mixed with the pops of color around the outside.

Photograph: 

The photo in this layout is one of my Thursday3 instagram selfies, printed out as a 4x4 photograph. I wasn't looking to tell a specific story with this layout, but rather giving context to the other photos in my scrapbook that look similar to that one.

Journaling: 

I journaled directly on the left side of my photo. Just a sentence about my #Thursday3 photographs, and my favorite spot to snap a selfie. I used the white brick of the fireplace in the photograph as a natural journaling box, and fit all of my words right in the white space.

Embellishments: 

The big embellishment on the right side is a wooden square with a debossed circular frame inside.  There were a few of these wooden embellishments in the kit, but this one was perfect for a tiny title. I stamped selfie on a sheet of white cardstock and used a circle punch to cut it out and add it to the middle of the wood. I slid one of the paperclips from the kit underneath the photo, and added a sticker from my Awesome Ladies collection as well. To finish off the cluster, I added a single green 'K' sticker, just to reinforce the me theme.

Miami, Florida -- 6x8 Layout

The bright and sunny colors of the Freckled Fawn: Citrus Twist June 2016 kit were perfect for the Miami vibe. The pops of color in the photo inspired me to use the puffy dots throughout the background of the layout. In this layout, I matted a 3.5x5 inch photograph in the center of this super bright page.

Paper: 

The patterned paper is again from my Awesome Ladies Feminist Scrapbook Collection. This paper was designed specifically to have journaling lines throughout the page, ready to use wherever you need. The photo is matted on another sheet of patterned paper from my collection, emphasizing the juxtaposition between black and white before peppering the layout with pops of color.

Photographs: 

This is a photo I snapped of a courtyard in the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami. It wasn't a super special photo when I took it, but after getting home, it quickly became one of my favorite pictures from the weekend. I think it just perfectly captured the warm vibes of the city on a late November afternoon.

Journaling:

I added a quick sentence on the bottom of my layout. There wasn't necessarily a specific story or detail that I wanted to point out. I wanted to let the photo do most of the talking.

Embellishments: 

Those puffy stickers. Right? One of my favorite things in the Freckled Fawn: Citrus Twist June 2016 kit. One of my personal trends has been using entire packages (or large portions) of embellishments to create a pattern on my layout. For this layout, I used the puffy stickers up and down the right side. Next, I placed some of the stickers over the edge and trimmed them to the page.

I tucked a tab in on the left hand side of the photograph with the date. I also tucked a black clear heart embellishment under the photo mat in the top left corner of the photograph. The title was placed under the photo with both alphabet stickers from the kit ('Miami') -- such perfect colors -- and a 'Florida' stamp. I'm such a sucker for mixed titles.

Lady Life -- 6x8 Layout

For this layout, I pulled a couple of the neutral embellishments from the kit to accompany this bright black and yellow paper. I painted one of the wooden frames yellow to match the paper, and then added a tiny photograph to the inside. I added a little journaling and a small embellishment cluster as well as washi tape on the bottom and clear heart embellishments along the upper left side. 

Paper: 

Once more I used a sheet of patterned paper from my Awesome Ladies Collection -- a bright sheet with yellow and black circles. This is one of the boldest sheets in the collection, and because of that I wanted to keep the rest of the layout simple.

Photographs: 

The photograph in this layout is tiny. It started out as about 2x2, and I just kept trimming it down on all sides until it fit the frame the way I wanted it to.

Journaling: 

Just a few words with a bold black pen to the right of the photograph.

Embellishments:

There are a couple of cool embellishments on this page. My favorite is the yellow frame -- I painted it with a yellow paint marker and let it dry before adding my photo to the top. I then added a few stickers to the top and slipped another one of the paperclips from the Freckled Fawn: Citrus Twist June 2016 kit underneath the photo and frame. I added a couple of the clear black heart embellishments to the top left of the page to fill out the rest of the spread.

The Scrapbooking with a Kit series shares some of my favorite kits, and the projects that I've created with them. I love scrapbooking using kits, whether they're pre-purchased kits, monthly subscription kits, or kits pulled together from my stash at home. Kits make it easier to scrapbook for a multitude of reasons: there's no more choice paralysis, it's easy to stop and pick back up again, it's easy to clean-up, there's great inspiration out there if I'm feeling stuck -- and most of all, kits help me think outside the box. When I don't have to worry about putting in all of my creative energy into figuring out the perfect supplies, I can use that energy to figure out cool new techniques.
