Recipe challenge: Single Photo, 3 Colors, Letters, and Something Round
Recipe challenge: Single Photo, 3 Colors, Letters, and Something Round
This week's challenge is to use the above recipe to kickstart your creative self-storytelling.
Do you have a photo that you've been wanting to scrapbook? A quote that you've been wanting to put in your art journal? A weekend trip that you want to document in a mini-album? Or maybe you just want to get the stories of today out of your head and onto the page.

My Challenge Project

For this challenge I created a 6x8 double spread (I'm really into the 6x8 doubles lately). My color palette was black/white/pink. I used the left page as my title page and the right page to focus on the photo. I added some journaling on my photograph and added a bit more with a great Michigan stamp set from Kelly Purkey and embellishments.

This week's challenge inspired me to finally start working on the Harry Potter album that I've been drawing up for months now. I also challenged myself to keep it simple. I love Gryffindor so I went with red, yellow and black, along with one of my favorite quotes.

I'll be piecing and putting together my very own Flair Trays. I'm using some of my FL photos for an inspirational project in the future, and I'll be using this photo in the mix! For the Recipe: Single Photo: I chose an inspiring FL photo I took along with some text. The text says: "DO THIS. Be a woman of strong conviction." 3 colors: Purple, Light Blues, and Pink. Letters: 2 packs of some Alpha Thickers and one of my fave clear stamp sets by Kelly Purkey. Something round: A flair button in purple with the hashtag, Fearless.

As I’m sure you can tell from my past ALP Challenge projects, single photos are my jam so I was pretty excited about this one. I also had a lot of fun with the 3 color challenge. To get the color blue that I envisioned, I painted some blue watercolor washes and dots onto mixed-media paper strips and placed them around my photo. I also added some white strips and torn vellum into the mix. Like most of my recent projects, this one is pretty simple, but I love how everything pops against the bright yellow background.
I went through and found this picture I took in my office. I am studying and grading; being a student and a professor. That fostered an idea for a 12 by 12 of my PhD Life. I went with purple paper because I love purple and have lots of things that would look really cool. I used black letters for the most part because I had A TON of them and I added the My in tye dye stickers because what hippie isnt a fan of tye dye. I used some word stickers that I liked and then I journaled the good and bad on a light purple round paper. I put one of my favorite quotes on a rectangle of purple paper and a currently on green paper. I love this spread. This was a lot of stuff I wanted to get out and this was the best place to do it.

Sometimes a recipe challenge is exactly what you need to use up supplies you've been holding onto for too long! I've tried to use those cute enamel stars many times and they never felt right - but paired with a bold black and white photo and a simple colour palette, they found their perfect home.

There are actually more than three colors but I think that combined with the colorful words meet the challenge goals and it's a giant embroidery hoop turned into a dreamcatcher.

This was one of those pages that took me about 10 attempts to get it out on the page! I enjoyed playing around with watercolours and letting the three colours blend into eachother. I then added jumbo confetti dots for the 'round' element of the recipe, to accent each colour. Lyrics by Lorde (of course!)

I chose to use this awesome magazine image and take my three-color scheme from the photo. The writing is my musings on the dreaded Inner Critic, who needs to be firmly, yet gently, put in its place (hence the message on the girl's tshirt). I used circles in the stamp set from @rukristin's Find Your Voice class to stamp on yellow handmade paper and add some texture to the page.
