Hey friends!
I hope that you’ve had a great first half of December. I’ve been getting into my end of year projects around here, and this week I spent a lot of time thinking about how my scrapbook projects are going to work in the upcoming year.
If you caught my newsletter on Wednesday, I talked about the Scrapbook Scavenger Hunt Review. If you’re going to do any single thing to get ready for your 2024 storytelling, do this Scrapbook Scavenger Hunt Review. Learn more about this process in Wednesday’s newsletter.
While flipping through my albums, there were so many things that I observed that I want to bring forward into my 2024 stories. Here are a few at the top of my list:
Full page photo collages.
More interactive elements.
Include interesting textures and things to touch.
Outside the page protector pages were great. I really enjoy that size, and it let’s me do all sorts of creative things that wouldn’t work nearly as well inside a page protector.
Next year I’ve got a few projects on deck that I’m looking forward to working on. Most are returning projects that I might change up a bit based on what I really enjoyed making this year.
My 2024 Chronological Album
One of the things that I realized flipping through my albums is that I want to include more current events. I love those pages in my books, and I think they really help to ground your personal stories in the national/global stories of the day.
Book of Me
This year I’m definitely going to focus on a lot more interactivity in my Book of Me pages. I want to add more interesting ways of journaling to my pages.
Daily Pages
I’m not really making any changes to my own Daily Pages habit, aside from focusing a little bit more on our new monthly lens (but that’s gonna show up in my Book of Me as well).
So — if you do one thing at all to prep for next year’s stories, head over to Wednesday’s newsletter and do your own Scrapbook Scavenger Hunt. And, reminder that paid subscribers have access to the My Albums Review worksheet and the flip-through video I put together of my own albums.
This week’s Daily Pages
Last Weekend
December Daily Pages 12/08/23: Cookie Day!
On Friday, Jeff made two different types of chocolate cookies. A sandwich cookie from Martha Stewart that I requested, and a Mexican Hot Chocolate cookie from the NY Times. They were both so delicious and I knew I wanted a photo of the cookies to be my full page.
December Daily Pages 12/09/23: Full Photo Disco Ornaments
On Saturday, we spent a bunch of time cleaning up the house, pulling out some more decorations, getting some laundry done, and generally worked on stuff around the house. I snapped a photo of three of my favorite Christmas ornaments.
Monday
December Daily Pages 12/10/23: Bright + Festive Currently List
I love using a Currently List on Mondays. It makes creating so much easier after a weekend. And weekends are usually filled with lots of watching, reading, listening, etc. — so it’s a great place to start the week.
Tuesday
December Daily Pages 12/11/23: Tommy Cutlets + The NY Football Giants
I was all ready to make a page about the headache day I had on Monday, but much to my surprise, the Giants beat Green Bay on Monday Night Football. So today’s page is all about that win, and our hilarious new quarterback, Tommy “Cutlets” DiVito. It feels like they just found him in the back booth at the local pizzeria.
Wednesday
December Daily Pages 12/12/23: Twelve Favorite Shows of 2024
My stories for Tuesday were boring, so I thought a list of 12 things would make a great page. I went with my favorite 12 TV shows of 2024. Each show is written down on a stamped tree I cut out.
Thursday
December Daily Pages 12/13/23: Simple Celebration
Wednesday night was our final Feminist Scrapbook School office hours call of the semester, so I grabbed a screenshot because I love these people and they deserve a place in my book!
Friday
December Daily Pages 12/14/23: Clear Circle Insert
Today we went to the Lansing Shuffleboard club for lunch before we started on the rest of our errands (it’s definitely not safe to go to Horrocks on an empty stomach). We had some really great Thai food and played a little bit of table shuffleboard.
Tip of the Week
These small clear pages of acetate have shown up a couple times in my album this week. I used them here to create a title for this spread where I had already covered both pages with stamped trees. I also used it in yesterday’s page with the clear circle. I picked it up at scrapbook.com. It comes in this smaller size that works perfectly in this smaller album.
