rukristin's Roundup: 02/18/24 -- February Blues
February is my least favorite month...how about you?
Hey friends!
February is my least favorite month. The weather sucks — bouncing between snow and false spring is truly painful (especially for my headaches). It’s a short month, which means a few less days to pay all those repeating monthly bills. And, the sun is still never out, even though it’s been getting darker out later and later each day.
Also — football is over, soccer hasn’t started yet. Which means that I can’t just put on a sports on the weekend and do my chores, so everything has been a little bit of an extra mess as well.
How do you do with February? What other months are a struggle for you?
Interesting Finds this Week
I’ve always got a show on while I’m scrapbooking over on the couch. This week I finished up a rewatch of Little Women on Netflix, a very loose K-Drama feminist interpretation of the classic novel. It’s got amazing twists, great characters, and it’s so much fun watching all these women on screen.
I’m not sure if you’ve heard about this pregnant stingray in NC — there aren’t any male sting rays in her aquarium, so no one is exactly sure what impregnated her. The AP picked up the story as well, so hopefully we’ll hear more when she has her babies!
Kate McKinnon is writing a middle-grade book and it looks hilarious.
The internet has been serving me up a lot of Sesame Street since Elmo’s big day of other people’s emotions. Here’s a clip of a Bruce Springsteen (Stringbean) parody that I couldn’t get enough of.
Usher released new music right before the Super Bowl — here’s A-Town girl, a play on Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl.
This week’s Daily Pages
Monday
Daily Pages 02/12/24: Painting Currently List
I woke up this morning way too early, after going to bed way too late last night (thanks Taylor) and I was just not feelin it. So right before I got to my desk today, I decided that I needed to create something that was going to take me a little bit of time today — that way I wasn’t just tempted to fill out a Currently List journaling card and call it a day. So I looked over, saw my gelli plate and some paint, and decided to play around with using paint as my stamping medium.
Tuesday
Daily Pages 02/13/24: Creating Space to Journal
I wasn’t feeling great this morning, so I knew I wanted to fall back on something easy for today’s page. And for me, that means an easy repeating stamped background. I like the calming meditative actions of inking up the stamp, pressing it down on the paper, inking up the stamp again, finding another empty space on the paper, and so forth. It’s a great way for me to spend time in my notebook without exerting too much mental energy.
Wednesday
Daily Pages 02/14/24: Happy Valentine's Day
I saw this heart stamp yesterday morning and knew it would be perfect for today’s Valentine’s Day page. I paired it with an old alpha stamp with skinny letters — fitting ten letters across the notebook can be a challenge at times. But I really love how this page came out.
Thursday
Daily Pages 02/15/24: Paper Forever!
This page is a take on my Thursday3 challenge — usually a selfie and three things about my right now life — today, I made a page about sticker and paper, and then journaled three things that I’m loving right now about papercrafting supplies.
Friday
Daily Pages 02/16/24: Mixing Paint and Journaling Cards
Behind the Page While looking around the studio this morning, I saw my gelli plate from earlier in the week, still with a little bit of blue paint on it. First thing I did when I started today’s page was to put down some white paint on top of the leftover blue paint still on the plate. I let it dry for a couple of minutes and then pulled it off to start the background of this page.
Tip of the Week
I love starting out my first page with the date. I don’t date all the pages in my Daily Pages books, but by putting the date on the front cover. I usually keep it super simple, but I do like to bring in some creativity in the form of stickers, simple color, and how I write the date.
