Reviving the Art of Paper Dolls
A beautiful combo of sticker ladies + traditional origami paper.
Behind the Page
The Month of Color starts tomorrow — and for the most part I’m going to be creating lots of monochromatic pages. I’ll be playing with a new color each day, but honestly I’m not going to be mixing colors, playing with different colored patterns, or making a bunch of rainbow pages.
So before The Month of Color starts tomorrow, I wanted to play with these beautiful sheets of origami paper that my sister-in-law picked up on her recent trip to Japan.
Technique of the Day
I have a bunch of these paper doll ladies stickers. They’re all in different poses, with different outfits, and I love how I can customize them to work with my stories. Today, I played around with cutting up this origami paper, to give these girls some really epic outfits.
I had no idea what I was doing when I started, so I just muddled through it, trimmed down the papers until they fit pretty well. I used a mechanical pencil (any pencil would work) and a pair of sharp and clean scissors.
Reflections & Insights
The most important tool that you can have for cutting paper like this is a good sharp pair of scissors. Want to know more about why scissors are important, which ones to get, and how to take care of them? Check out the resources below.

Tips & Creative Wisdom
It’s been a long week — lots of appointments and lots of out of the house time (omg we’ve had major construction detours and I’m so over it). Lots of life admin going on right now. I’m ready for a weekend at home with some strawberry shortcake, garden time, and to kick off the Month of Color!
You don’t have to do anything new to participate — everything will be right in these emails that you’re already getting and opening each day (now you’ll get them on the weekend as well!). They’ll be updated with all the information you need to play along with me each day.
