Today’s Color

Behind the Page

I love the color of poppies — it’s my favorite red, so thanks for indulging me in today’s color. I knew I wanted to use this great poppy red ink that I’ve got from Concord and 9th, so I picked out a stamp set that would really let the color shine.

Creating background patterns is one of my most relaxing Daily Pages techniques. I’ve done it so many times that it mostly happens on its own. I just pick out a stamp set, grab a clean sheet of paper, and make sure to create a pattern where I’ve got a similar amount of white space throughout.

Technique of the Day

Cut up your quotes. Rearrange them on the page so they work for you. For this one, originally the two lines of the quote were above each other. I didn’t love how that looked across the page, so I let the left side of the page be for the top part of the original quote, and the right side of the page for the bottom part of the original quote.

I also cleaned my scissors in the middle of cutting so they’d cut a little smoother. There’s a short post below walking you through that process.

Cleaning your scissors is an important part of tool maintenance. They’re so much easier to use when the blades are clean. You’ll notice a major difference when you’re cutting.

Reflections & Insights

I’m glad we’re getting to the end of the week — I need a solid few days of rest. I’ll be sharing my pages over the weekend, but I probably won’t have any video to share since I’m not recording a live session.

I encourage you to tackle weekends, or other times where you need rest, in a similar way. Figure out what works for you.

If you’re stuck, try this method:

  1. Ask yourself what the minimum end goal of this project is.

  2. Next, ask yourself how can you respect your minimum end goal with the energy you currently have right now.

  3. Get started on the next step.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

I love poppy red — if you don’t, that’s totally cool; pick another color for today. Or any other day as well. This challenge is meant to be fun and a way for you to explore colors. If that looks a little different from me, awesome! I love when you lean into the things that you love and work best for you.

That’s what it’s all about!
