Behind the Page

Today I played around with a foam stamp, some paint, and the gel plate. My original idea was to see what type of pattern I could create on some cardstock. I was hoping for a cool tone-on-tone look. Once I got myself set up, I realized that I had the time and the extra paint to make a few more prints.

Technique of the Day

First I created this print that I used for today’s page by stamping into the paint on my gel plate and then stamping on the cardstock itself. You don’t even need a gel plate at all to do this technique, you just need paint and the foam stamp. I wasn’t even really trying to create this print at first — I was lifting off paint with the foam stamp to create a pattern on the gel plate. But this page looked even cooler.

After this page, I pulled the original print that I was trying for (and it’s still drying over on my paint cart) and it’s super fun as well. Next I pulled a print to just get the rest of the paint up off the page. Finally, I wanted to see what it would look like if I took the painted stamp and stamped all over the gel plate. That one looked awesome too.

I had so much fun creating all these different prints (you can see them in the video below) and it was such a fun way to spend today’s Daily Pages session.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Combine the Same Supplies in New Ways

Challenge yourself to use the same supplies in a new combination each time. For example, you might take a foam stamp and see what it looks like when you stamp directly on a sheet of cardstock, or directly on a gel plate. Changing how you combine your materials creates endless possibilities, even when you’re using a small stash.

Tip: Give yourself a mini-challenge—choose 2-3 supplies, and find a few different ways to combine them. Use your favorite in your next Daily Page.
