Behind the Page

My head is killing me today — it should be the tail end of this longer headache spike, but this afternoon was honestly just a killer. The biggest creative roadblock during headaches is thinking and making decisions. My go-to solutions are to look around my desk and see if something calls out to me *and* keep things as simple as possible.

All that being said — I’m super happy with what I came up with today.

Technique of the Day

I spent 90% of my time today just cutting out these little butterflies. They looked super cute on the card they came on — but I wanted to let them fly around on the page in a little more haphazard way.

Also, when my head hurts, I love spending my time on precision cutting. It’s something that I don’t really need to think about, there aren’t a bunch of decisions that need to be made, I just make it happen.

To make it easier on myself, I cut off the super delicate antenna from each of the butterfly illustrations on the card, and drew ones on once I stuck them down on the page.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Focus on Small Details

Dive into the tiny details of your work—like adding intricate doodles, tiny dots of paint, or carefully layering collage pieces. The act of paying close attention to these small elements can be grounding, pulling you into a state of flow where time fades away.

Pro Tip: Use a fine-tipped pen or brush for the smallest details and let yourself take your time. How does slowing down and focusing on the little things change your creative process?
