Behind the Page

Today was one of those days where everything slowly goes wrong. I started out getting ready for the Daily Pages live session, I usually show up about 10 minutes before and get everything set up for the live event and the recording.

Today, I started up my video, and the version I’m recording on the computer looks great, but the Zoom version of my video was super blurry. I went into tech support mode and restarted all the different programs (didn’t work) so I went to restart the entire computer and it let’s me know that if I restart the computer, it’s going to do a Window Update on restart (joy).

Restarting the computer took forever, so I joined my live session on the iPad and narrated what I was doing to fix the computer. Eventually, I got everything to work (mostly) the way it was supposed to and I could get started on my page for the day.

Since that took a solid twenty minutes, I had less than half the time I usually like to take for my pages, so I decided to just grab an art card, cut out the pretty bits, and add some words. It’s my right now go-to for super simple pages.

Technique of the Day

Super simple precision cutting of this postcard. If you watch the video below, you’ll see me switch back and forth between the two pairs of scissors that I like to use to really make cutting easy and look great. Whenever I’m in a rush, I like to back my postcard with double sided adhesive. It means as soon as I’m done cutting, I can just peel off the back and stick down whatever I’ve cut out. This is especially useful when the cuts are a little more intricate.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Switch Scissors for Better Precision

Different cuts need different tools! Using both larger and smaller scissors helps get clean edges and control tricky details. Having both on hand makes fussy cutting way easier and more enjoyable.

Pro Tip: If you don’t already have a favorite, test out a few different scissors to see which ones feel best in your hands.
