Behind the Page

Today was one of those days where I was completely inspired by the stuff that I left on my desk over the weekend. I’ve been re-organizing my studio, now that we’ve decided that we’re staying here in Michigan long term, I feel like I can get started on a re-organization that’ll work for me and how I’m creating right now.

I left these dies on my desk when I was moving things around, and when I got to my desk this morning, I thought—hey, let’s just run with it. So I grabbed a pile of gel prints and found a few that would be pretty flowers. I picked out a purple and a yellow print and ran them through my die cut machine. I did the same thing for some teal accents.

I couldn’t find my glue stick (which I obviously found as soon as I was done with today’s session), so I went with white glue and a paint brush. It all worked out really well, but it was definitely a little bit messy.

I finished up my page with a yellow Currently card and added in a few extra bits. Love how today’s page came out.

Technique of the Day

This week’s Currently List:

Watching:

Lost — it’s been amazing. We’re in season 4 and just watched The Constant. Peak network television.

The NFL Championship games. They were fine. Everyone did exactly what they were expected to do.

Mrs. Davis — it’s been so funny to rewatch this knowing where we end up.

Reading:

Onyx Storm. I finished the text version on Tuesday, and the audiobook yesterday, so now I’m trying to decide if I want to go back to the beginning of the series or reread this one first.

Listening:

Onyx Storm, I also started ACOTAR at night to go to sleep now that I’ve finished up The Great Library Series.

Making:

I’ve been making pizza and chicken. I used the Grandma Pizza recipe from King Arthur for my pizza, and I made some type of Mexican inspired braised chicken with rice and potatoes. I’ve got leftovers in the fridge, and I’m excited to have easy dinners this week.

Feeling:

Not too bad? The low (but steady) temperatures last week made for a pretty good headache week overall. I know we’re getting some weather this week, so I’m happy to have had a few days where things were pretty chill.

Planning:

My Book of Me class for 2025. It’s going to be amaaazing! We’re gonna be looking at a bunch of different female artists to help us tell our stories.

Loving:

My iPad and my apple pencil. I’ve been making such fun things lately. It feels so good to be able to be creative on the couch during the evenings and on days where I’m not feeling totally up to standing at my desk all day.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Let Your Desk Be Your Muse

Sometimes, the supplies you leave out can spark the best ideas. Unfinished projects or tools left in plain sight can inspire a page or jumpstart your creativity when you’re unsure where to begin.

Pro Tip: Leave a few favorite or intriguing supplies on your desk at the end of a session to make starting easier the next day.
