I’m so glad it’s Friday, I had a busy week this week—getting ready for my Book of Me class, which is going to be amazing. I’m still feeling a little tired from last week’s flu, so I’ve been trying to take it a little easy, especially after work hours (read: lots of reheated leftovers for dinner). But I’m itching to make some real food this weekend after a bit of a drought here.
For today’s page, I made a nice big collage sheet. I was flipping through some paper as I was organizing my desk today and decided to make a big black and white collage sheet. I pulled out a letter sized sheet of paper, a bunch of black and white scraps, and just started gluing stuff down. I only needed half of it for my Daily Pages background, so I’ve got half of it still left over for another time.
I added some pops of pink with markers and stamps, again just playing around with different supplies, and I added the ATC over on the left page to pull everything together and give this page a purpose. That Audre Lorde quote is one of my favorites of all time.
Technique of the Day
It was fun to create the large collage and then cut it down as my background paper, but this really needed a focal point to pull the whole thing together.
I pulled out one of the ATC cards that I created for an ALP event and trimmed it down to use here on the page. It contrasts with the black and white background, and compliments the little bits of pink I added in the other spaces on the page.

Use a Focal Point to Anchor the Page
A busy collage background can feel a little chaotic without a clear focal point. Adding an ATC, a quote card, or a single bold image (stickers are great) helps pull the whole design together and gives your page a sense of balance.
Pro Tip: Layer your focal point with a contrasting color or a frame to make it stand out even more against a detailed collage.
