K&J do Vermont
#kandjdoVT

This past June, as our mutual graduation present to each other, Jeff and I took a road trip to Burlington, Vermont. It was so wonderful, I really can't wait to go back. And if we're being totally honest, I definitely came home and Zillow'd all the houses up there. I did find the most amazing 1898 dream farmhouse -- but we're not going to be moving to Vermont any time in the near future.
Even though we were only there for a couple of days we made the most of our time. We got breakfast every morning (Mirabelle's Cafe had literally the best sausage, egg and cheese sandwich of all time) -- did a lot of walking around downtown Burlington. We went to the aquarium, a ton of restaurants, we tried both rabbit and wild boar.
Restaurant recommendations: The Farmhouse Tap & Grill -- this is where we had the rabbit. We also had some other meats and cheeses after waiting for our table in this beautiful beer garden in the back of the restaurant. Four Corners of the Earth -- if this place didn't have crazy amazing reviews I would have been totally scared to try it. It's in a quieter section of town, in the bottom floor of an office building. Cash only. One guy. But jeez, the sandwiches were to die for. It has no website so I linked to the Urban Spoon reviews. Ben & Jerry's -- not a restaurant, but definitely hit up either the factory tour (outside of town) or the flagship store on Church St.
Favorite Parts
Weather -- it was like perfect room temperature the entire time. I needed a light sweater one night because of the breeze coming off the lake, but I don't think there could have been more perfect weather.
Local Food -- I loved that so many of the restaurants were commited to using local food. We checked out several Farm to Table places and the quality of the food was just so good!
Indie Shops -- a comic book store, a board/card game store, a record store, lots of clothing stores. It was really nice to walk around and browse stores that don't exist anywhere else
Progressive Culture -- It was great to see an emphasis on community building, local jobs, fair trade, living wages, and other issues that are important to me.
Beautiful + In the Middle of Nowhere -- I love the fact that its in the middle of nowhere. The city of Burlington is peaceful enough, but just 10 minutes outside and you're in farmland or the mountains. I want to be there.

As with any other trip, I'm looking forward to documenting our time in Vermont. I've already created a spread in my small-format Project Life summer album, and I have a few mini-albums in the works. I'm thinking a mini-album with just our instax photos and another with this awesome vintage postcard I found antiquing in Brooklyn.
Where have your summer travels taken you? Did you get to go on any fun road trips this year?
