Keeping It Simple When Energy Is Low
Using bold stamps, easy backgrounds, and low-effort techniques to stay creative without the burnout.
Behind the Page
My page photos are still not great. I’m not going to be able to fix my lighting situation for a little while. I need to go to the hardware store and make some physical changes to my desk with some lumber and screws, and that’s absolutely not something I’m going to take on until I’m totally over this flu. And since we’re going to get about two feet of snow over the next five days, I’m not super optimistic about it happening this weekend.
Technique of the Day
I needed something mentally and physically easy today. I’m still feeling pretty crappy, but I absolutely have the energy to make it over to my desk and make a page for the day. But also, I need it to not zap all the energy I have; I’ve still got a few other things I’d really like to do today (wash the sheets on the bed, for one).
I grabbed a big stamp set, with some really bold icons. I pulled out my favorite stamping inks (Versafine Clair). The background paper is hanshi paper from Daiso (highly recommended).
In the full video, I spend today talking about how I make these repeating stamped backgrounds. How I decide what stamps to use, how I figure out where everything goes, how to pick a color palette that works, and more. It’s a great little lesson if you want to learn more about how to create repeating stamped backgrounds that you love.
