Day #17 Behind the Page

Today was one of those days where legit nothing was going right. First, I didn’t unmute myself in our live session and I was just talking along the whole time and no one heard a single thing I said lol (the recording got it all, just not the live attendees, thanks technology). Then, I had a fab idea where I was going to print out three little photos from the second day of cookie making, and my printer decided it was done printing after a single photo. So rude.

Technique of the Day

So instead of the page I planned, I pivoted and grabbed these little houses that I’ve had on my desk all month. Stuck them down on the page and went full scrapbook, and matted my photo and added journaling strips on the far side. Even though I wanted this page to have a few more photos (and if we’re being honest, this was my least favorite photo of the three I planned to use), it still came out adorable. I’m a huge fan of the blues that I’ve been using the past few days. Much better than the red explosion at the beginning of my album.

For those of you unfamiliar with December Daily Pages, it’s a mix of two creative traditions I love: Ali Edwards’ December Daily, a holiday storytelling project, and my own Daily Pages routine, a creative habit I’ve practiced since 2018. By blending these approaches, I’ve found a way to balance holiday cheer with the everyday joys of scrapbooking and storytelling.

Share your pages (and find inspiration!) in the Awesome Ladies Project app. I’ll be posting my pages there throughout the month.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Pivot When Plans Go Awry

When technology or supplies throw a wrench in your plans, embrace the pivot. Using elements already on your desk, like the little houses, turns a frustrating moment into an opportunity to simplify and get creative with what’s at hand.

Pro Tip: Keep a small stash of pre-cut embellishments, stickers, or other quick supplies nearby for quick page pivots.
