Behind the Page

Happy Valentine’s Day friends! I hope that your day is filled with all sorts of love. I had a good time putting together this little v-day page this afternoon. I also spent time earlier last week putting together a little Valentine’s Day zine that you can download below.

Technique of the Day

I took some stamps that I had from an older Ali Edwards Story Kit (now discontinued) and used them on the gelli plate to create this Valentine’s Day background. You can watch the full video (below the paywall) to check out the full tutorial on how to make this page happen. I like how this page came out—even if it is a little sloppy. Stamping on the gel plate with paint is a very messy endeavor, and I don’t ever really expect it to come out looking crisp and clean.

This technique would work great with any stamps that have a large surface area. I’m excited to try it with a few of my other stamps in the upcoming weeks.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Lean Into the Messiness

Stamping with paint is never going to be crisp like ink, and that’s okay! Letting go of perfection makes the process more fun and keeps you from over-fixing things. The goal is creative play, not flawless execution.

Pro Tip: If you want a little more control, try rolling out thinner layers of paint before stamping for a slightly cleaner look while still keeping the paint effect.
