Behind the Page

A picture is worth a thousand words. And still, each time you take a photo of yourself, you’re documenting so much more than you could with words alone.

I’ve been taking a weekly photo of myself since my senior year of college. It’s been an exceptional project and it’s helped me document who I am, where I’ve been, what I like to do, and thousands of other tiny important moments.

Technique of the Day

Thursday3 is a selfie challenge that I started well over ten years ago. I needed a way to get more photos of myself, so that I could scrapbook the stories I wanted to tell. I was constantly running into the same like 2-3 photos of myself that I liked.

So I put it on the calendar.

Every Thursday, I started taking a picture of myself. For accountability, I shared it to Instagram, along with three things that were going on in my life that week (it was such a different Instagram back then). I’ve been doing it (and so have tens of thousands of others) ever since!

Now, one of my favorite ways to do Thursday3 is right here in my Daily Pages notebook — sometimes I use a picture from the same day, but most of the time I’ll grab a picture from my stash (I’ve got so many previous Thursday3 photos) and write about what’s going on this week.

Reflections & Insights

Whether you’re just snapping a photo, jotting down things about your week, sharing to social media, or creating daily pages and scrapbook layouts — these Thursday3 pictures are an easy and accessible way for you to tell your stories. You’ll be so glad that you have pictures of yourself; and the people who love you will be even happier.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

If you’re unsure about selfies, we’ve got a workshop coming up in May called Selfie Mechanics 101. We’ll be talking about how you can level up your selfies with known photography skills. Look forward to hands-on lessons, selfie prompts, photo feedback and more. Full details will be available later this month!
