Behind the Page

Today, I wanted to play around a little more with the copper paint splatter ink I made yesterday. It was a little too thin yesterday — I added in a little bit too much of the alcohol yesterday and it watered down the paint a bit too much. Which meant that the splatters were a little washed out.

Technique of the Day

Today’s splatter was awesome. I didn’t actually do anything with the copper paint and alcohol mixture from yesterday. Just leaving it overnight was enough to help evaporate the liquid. If I use it again later, I’ll probably have to add another drop or two of alcohol to get it to be the consistency I want again.

If you want to try this at home — grab some acrylic paint (I used metallic paint here for a some sparkle), squeeze it into a little cup, and add a few drops of rubbing alcohol. Mix it up with a paintbrush until it’s all one consistency. You’re gonna want a consistency thicker than water, but thin enough to flick off a paintbrush.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Reflect on Your Process by Combining Past Techniques

So, thoughts for a Friday — take some time to reflect on what you’ve learned throughout the week (and come up with an easy Friday page) by combining techniques from different pages you’ve created before. Flip through the last few pages of your notebook and pick out a couple techniques that stood out to you—maybe you loved a certain paint texture, a collage you did, or a particular journaling bit.

Tip: If you’re having a good time, and want to take it a step further, you can leave some space on the page to journal about how you chose to put this together. This helps you understand and reflect on the skills you picked out and also honors the journey you’ve been on.
