Behind the Page

Acapulco on Apple TV+ is such a delight. It’s fun and kind and the characters are all amazing (also the music is incredible). In addition to it being a truly delightful show — it’s also beautiful. The colors are amazing. It’s (mostly) set in the 1980’s so the color palette is filled with hot pinks, neon yellows, and incredible tropical nature colors.

So for today’s page, I channeled those epic colors and picked out this gel print with hot pink and bits of yellow and green. I added some stickers and a stamped title just to mark the day that I started the third season of this show. No need for extensive journaling — just a quick story about something making me happy.

Technique of the Day

When I’m stamping out words, I write them out on paper first. Even if it’s something I know how to spell perfectly — I still want to see the letters on paper, so I know where to place them.

Generally, it’s important to know where the visual center of your word is. Usually it winds up being right in the middle — an eight letter word (like the one above) will have four letters in the front and four letters in the back. But, depending on what letters you’re using (and what font you’ve got) the center of your word might be one or two letters off.

That’s why I grab a post-it note and write out my letters first. Additionally, I can just look at my note and see what letters I need. I no longer have to remember what order the letters go in, it’s not a word anymore, it’s a collection of letters that I need to transfer onto the page.

Ever since I’ve started doing this, I haven’t screwed up a stamped word yet. 10/10 would recommend.

Reflections & Insights

If you’re not watching Acapulco on Apple TV+, give it a shot. It’s warm and funny. The characters are really well thought out and everyone looks like they’re having the best time. The best part of the show is the hotel band — I’m constantly getting their music stuck in my head.
