Ending the Week on a High Note
Making backgrounds is just so fun. Make some backgrounds this weekend.
Behind the Page
I knew when I got to my desk today that I just wanted to have some fun. I wanted to play around with colors and just see what happened. I grabbed some stamps that are bound for the Awesome Ladies Live de-stash table, and decided to see what kind of patterned paper I could make.
I love making fun backgrounds — in fact, as a challenge for this holiday weekend, I want you to make a fun background too! It doesn’t matter what you wind up using it for, l want you to play around with colors and textures this weekend and just have a good time.
Technique of the Day
To make this background, I grabbed a few older Bo Bunny texture stamps and used a different color for each stamp. I layered the blue dots throughout the full page, I added the pink scratches on the left side, and some yellow pebbles on the right. The colors all mixed together and so we’ve got some green and orange in there too. It’s a fun rainbow of colors only using three primary tones.
Reflections & Insights
Keep it simple when you’re making your backgrounds. Start out with one stamp and one ink color. Build layers on top of each other until you’re happy with how it turns out. And if you really hate how it looks, don’t worry, it’ll look awesome cut up and rearranged or as the base of another project. Backgrounds are always salvageable, which is one reason I like spending time on them.
