Easy Page for a Low-Energy Day
How you can be creative on those days where you are just beat.
Behind the Page
Easy page Friday — that might be a new theme.
I had a packed week. Eclipse in Ohio and Butterflies in Grand Rapids on Monday, last night we went to see the MSU Theater production of Spring Awakening on campus. And today I’m just beat.
I’ve had these photos on my desk all week. I was organizing photos last weekend, and I wanted to play around with a few of the nature photos I found. We had such an incredible spring day on Monday, and I’m so ready for more days where I can be outside.
For today’s page, I picked out one of the photos, put it on the page and thought about what else would look good around it. I picked out a greenish-blue gel print that I think worked really well with the colors in my photo. I added a tiny white cardstock border to make the photo pop.
Technique of the Day
Paint pen on gel print. I knew I wanted a black frame around this photo, and I looked through my supplies for the right marker/pen to use. There are a bunch of my favorite pens and markers that wouldn’t have dried well on the gel print, so at first I was looking for a black Sharpie, but then I came across the black paint pen and knew that would work.
I like the way the simple lined frame came out. If I had a smaller tipped marker, I might have added a few more lines, or made my frame a bit more intricate, but the boldness of the black paint looks pretty excellent against the lime green/blue background.
Reflections & Insights
Let days be easy. Some pages can be as simple as a single sticker, a little bit of stamping, or just a photo. Experimenting and playing around doesn’t have to be hard. Think about the things that come easy to you or things you just love to do. Learn into those on the hard days.
Some of my favorite easy-to-me things for low-energy days are:
Flipping through my papers and finding colors/patterns that work.
Stickers — lots of stickers. They’re so easy to just pick up and stick down.
Stamping (mostly because it’s like second nature to me now).
Things that take up more of my brain energy, better for high energy days:
Journaling. Anything where I have to come up with competent English.
New techniques. Great for when I want to explore and problem solve.
Precision cutting and complicated patterns.

Tips & Creative Wisdom
A thin cardstock mat can really make your photo pop. Try different colors to see what works best. Start with one of the accent colors in your photo (like I did with the white cardstock and white flowers above). It’s a simple and easy way to make the important bits in your photo really stand out.
