Documenting this Season of Game of Thrones in my TV Journal

Each Sunday night, over the past seven weeks, I've been spending my Game of Thrones episodes creating a page in my GoT Season 7 TV Journal.

I wrote a post about a month ago, introducing my project, and talking about the goals.

Now that everything is going to wrap up with tonight's episode, I wanted to take some time and share with you the progress that I've made thus far, and how I feel about this project now that it's coming to a close.

Television is one of my favorite methods of storytelling. Prestige television is one of my favorite forms of entertainment. Game of Thrones is pretty much at the absolute top of every one of my TV lists.

I'm not going to go into how much I love it, or how many hours we could spend chatting on every single subject/character/scene/word, but I am going to share this cool project I've been spending a little bit of time on each week (during the episode)

Supplies Used:

• Blank Travelers Notebook with pages glued together to give me seven thick inside pages (for the seven episodes)

• Old Book Paper

• Jane Davenport Neutrals Watercolor Palette

• Watercolor Brush

• Small Scissors

• Zip Dry Glue

Here's a quick video of me water-coloring the book pages for tonight's episode. For each episode, I look up what the title of the episode is going to be, and then I choose a color palette from there.

I've set these pages in front of the window to dry. The text paper dries pretty quickly, and I've been really happy with the way that it's taken the watercolor paint for this project.

Since I work on this project at night when Game of Thrones is on and the lights are (mostly) off, there's not really a great way to show you my setup. But the project is simple enough that I think you can get an idea of how it goes.

The way that I set myself up in front of the television is as follows:

1. Gather all supplies. There is no getting up during the show, so I make sure I get everything I need before it starts and put it on the table in front of me.

2. Trim watercolored text paper. The first thing I do is trim the watercolor paper into rectangular boxes that are roughly the size of the final letter I want to cut.

3. Lay out rectangles. Once I've trimmed my rectangular boxes down to size, I make sure I've got enough space to make the title fit. Otherwise, I trim down my boxes until I've got room for everything I need.

4. Start cutting letters. Start hand cutting the letters with the small sharp scissors. I usually start with the first letter of the first word and go from there.

5. Glue it all down. I use ZipDry glue, but you can use whatever adhesive you're most comfortable with.

I've got myself all ready for tonight's episode. It clocks in at just under eighty minutes, so I'll hopefully I'll have enough time to cut and paste the longest title yet as well.

I've had such a great time working in this album. I think creative episode titles are such a great way to document your favorite television show without putting too much mental energy into figuring out what exactly is it that's worth documenting.

This project says, I care about this thing enough to spend some time making art about it. That's one of my biggest goals for memory-keeping in 2017 and beyond; to create projects that say -- I care about this thing, it represents me and my life, here's something I made to represent that.

I hope Game of Thrones is incredible tonight! Fingers crossed for our favorites to make it through & for A+G to kiss.
