Behind the Page
For today’s page, I wanted to do two things: paint with some watercolors, and journal about what I was thankful for this year. The perfect pre-Thanksgiving Day page.
Technique of the Day
I started out with some watercolor paper and these great pearlescent watercolors paints. I used a few colors to create this warm-toned ombré look. Then I took some Staz-On black ink and stamped out the word Thanks and cut out the letters with a small pair of scissors.
Reflections & Insights
Even though this is a relatively simple page — it took me a while. Each step took a good 10 minutes to do; the painting, the stamping (and penning), the cutting, and the journaling. It didn’t feel like that long at all. I was definitely in a great flow state. I think because I had the end idea in my head the whole time, it was easy to move from part a to part b through to the end.
Tips & Creative Wisdom
I actually needed to take a permanent marker, and trace over my stamped letters. Normally, this black ink stands out really well, but because I didn’t have enough time to let my watercolor paper dry, the stamped letters did not show up great. NBD. It was easy to trace over the letters.
Next time, I think I’d rather wait for the watercolor paper to dry. It’s a lot easier when I’ve got watercolor pages that I’ve painted at least a day before, so I’ll stick with that method. That being said, I should paint some more watercolor paper so I can use it in future Daily Pages!
