Behind the Page

I got a new set of paints last night — I picked up this Liquitex set, recommended by a friend, at Michaels for 50% off. I opened up a couple of bottles and started to play around a little bit. This is why I love Daily Pages. I’ve got an easy space and time for me to play around with new supplies. Back in the olden days, before I did Daily Pages, my new supplies would sit around until I got over the fear of using them. I care a lot about the way my scrapbook layouts look, and using them as a place to experiment just wasn’t fun for me.

But Daily Pages changes all of that. Each page doesn’t have a specific purpose. I can fully embrace the idea of play, because no matter what — I’ll be turning the page at the end of the day, and tomorrow I get to do it all over again, in whatever way I want. If my pages with this new paint turn out ugly and terrible — oh well, I’ll get better, level up my skills, and eventually my paint skills will improve. But, if I don’t ever give myself the space to play around and work on those skills, they’ll just remain stagnant.

Technique of the Day

Idk if you’re like me — but I have thousands of journaling cards. From the last 10+ years of Project Life being a thing, I’ve collected so. many. cards. One of my favorite ways to use them up is sorting out the quote cards and putting them in my Daily Pages. They’re a great way to finish off an artsy collage page, or another cool background that you created. When you slice them up like this, you see even more of your background page. Give it a try! I’d love to see how you play with quote cards.

Reflections & Insights

I’m so excited about these new paints. One of the things I’m most excited about is to see which colors I use up first. There are so many amazing colors in the set. I’m going to start out with a few of the colors tonight and make some more gelli print papers, and see what I like playing with.
