Today felt like a day for paint — a rare Daily Pages supply. I love how it turned out.

Behind the Page

I woke up this morning way too early, after going to bed way too late last night (thanks Taylor) and I was just not feelin it. So right before I got to my desk today, I decided that I needed to create something that was going to take me a little bit of time today — that way I wasn’t just tempted to fill out a Currently List journaling card and call it a day. So I looked over, saw my gelli plate and some paint, and decided to play around with using paint as my stamping medium.

Technique of the Day

This is a repeating stamped background with acrylic paint instead of traditional stamp inks. I like to use my gelli plate as the “ink pad” and layer on some paint the same way that I would if we were creating monoprints. The springy-ness in the gelli plate helps to get the paint evenly on the stamp. I find that brushing paint on creates streaks, and putting paint on a hard surface and stamping into the wet paint never comes out evenly. This is why the gelli plate is a great option to create a surface for transferring paint your stamps.

Reflections & Insights

I can count the number of times I’ve used fresh paint in my notebook on one hand. For me, Daily Pages is about creating a quick page and then flipping the page for the next day. I don’t have a great time when I’m sitting around waiting for paint to dry during this creative time. So normally, if I want to include bits that have wet media on them, I’ll create them in advance (usually in bulk) and then keep that stash to flip through when I’m creating pages.

But today, with the help of the gelli plate, I was able to use thin stamped bits of paint that dried almost instantly. It’s really fun to have that tiny bit of texture on the page. I spent more than a few seconds just rubbing my hand over the page after I was done.
