Currently Watching: Week of 3/6/23
I'm Currently Watching...The Last of Us (current), Ghosts (still catching up), Shrinking (current), and more...
It’s currently March 6th, 2023, and here’s what I’ve been watching this past week (and where I’ve been watching it):
Ghosts (Paramount+)
We’re still catching up on Ghosts (the American version — you’ll soon learn I have a love/hate relationship with British humor). We started watching a few weeks ago and just got to season two this week. I’m still pleasantly surprised at how much I’m loving a CBS (aka Paramount+) comedy. But with each episode, there are more laugh-out-loud moments.
Shrinking (AppleTV+)
I’m enjoying Shrinking, especially this past episode. Everyone has regrets after a drunken party — right? So glad that I don’t drink anymore. On Shrinking, everyone is so intertwined in everyone else’s life. It’s messy drama, and probably because half of the cast is a licensed therapist, everyone has a little bit of grace about it. This is much easier to watch than drama-filled shows where all the characters refuse to acknowledge anyone else is going through a hard time but themselves. This remains true even as the topics in Shrinking get hard and heavy at times.
The Last of Us (HBO)
Last night’s episode was great. I love when a show produces a great penultimate episode, and I’m glad that The Last of Us pulled through on this one. I was a little disappointed with the previous episode, and last night’s episode made me happy that I was watching the show week to week again.
It was intense. There’s a lot more I’d like to dive into on this one. Especially about this episode’s character of the week. He was definitely a character worth some study.
The Magicians (Netflix)
This is my current “kitchen show”. I’ve always got at least one show that I’m watching in the kitchen/at the front of the house. It’s usually something I’ve seen at least once or twice so I don’t have to pay too much attention to it while I’m supposed to be making dinner or doing whatever other chores I’m up front working on. Right now our kitchen show is The Magicians, which can now be found on Netflix.
I adore this show. It’s got some of the most beautiful storytelling in any television show ever made. We just started the last season, and I love the way they wrap up the story. It’s such a pleasure watching it.
Party Down (Starz)
Party Down is back after like a decade of being off the air. It comes back even sharper, especially if you’re an Adam Scott fan. Jennifer Garner shows up and she’s a gem. Everyone is a little bit older, but if you watched the show when it was originally on you’re a little bit older now too.
There have been two episodes so far. The first episode was a bit of a prologue, and this past week’s episode was where this season really started. I’m excited to see where this season goes.
