Day #4 Behind the Page

I got to my desk today with a bit of a headache, which is not unusual — especially on weeks where the weather is super volatile. But once in a while, instead of my headaches making me feel sluggish, brain fogged, and floaty — they make me feel like I’ve got super powers. Lots of ideas, desire to focus on one thing (it helps push the pain out), and a drive to push forward. My headaches happen multiple times a day, but usually only last a short-ish period of time, so pushing through and trying to get through the next 15-20 minutes has been a super helpful tactic.

That being said. These super powers are not happening at 100%. Honestly, they’re not even happening at 75%. So things can turn out surprising and wonky. Today was definitely one of those days. And since I didn’t really have a special story for Wednesday, I made today’s page much more art-journal-y than traditional scrapbook page.

Technique of the Day

I played around with some holiday silkscreens (background paper in the pic above). I tried them on the gel plate and on the paper itself. I had a good time playing around, and I’ll definitely try more of this later this month — possibly even tomorrow at the Daily Pages Masterclass. I learned a bunch of stuff today, including some more stuff about drying in between layers that will make next time a lot easier.

Also — I might need to get some more green paint before this month is over. Ooh, should I put that on my Christmas List?

For those of you unfamiliar with December Daily Pages, it’s a mix of two creative traditions I love: Ali Edwards’ December Daily, a holiday storytelling project, and my own Daily Pages routine, a creative habit I’ve practiced since 2018. By blending these approaches, I’ve found a way to balance holiday cheer with the everyday joys of scrapbooking and storytelling.

Share your pages (and find inspiration!) in the Awesome Ladies Project app. I’ll be posting my pages there throughout the month.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Embrace Art-Journal Energy

On days when storytelling feels less structured, lean into the freedom of art journaling. Play with paint, textures, and patterns to create a page that’s more about mood and exploration than a specific narrative.

Pro Tip: Use repeating shapes like circles or stripes to bring visual cohesion to your experimental pages. How does focusing on shapes or patterns help balance the chaos?
