Behind the Page

I had so much fun playing with my paints yesterday that I was really itching to pull them out again today. I didn’t really have anything more concrete in mind, so I just started grabbing a rainbow assortment of paints and making myself a big rainbow.

I tend to default to rainbow when I can’t decide. That way I get a bit of everything.

Technique of the Day

I used some Japanese calligraphy paper that I picked up at Daiso when I was back home last year. It’s got a bit of a tooth to it, but it doesn’t seem to pill up at all with the watercolors (what I really wanted to test). I love how vibrant the colors turned out. And there’s zero bleed at all — which is super important if you’re going to stamp on top like I did in today’s page.

Reflections & Insights

I have this palette paper that I picked up at Blick. It makes painting so much easier. And with these tube watercolors, it doesn’t matter if the paint dries, because you can just pick it up again with a bit of water. I keep a pad on hand and it makes messy time just a little bit easier and more accessible.

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Daily Pages is a great way to test out different supplies, in a place with less pressure, to see what works well together. If things go wrong, there’s never anything to re-create, no stories that you ‘messed up’; it’s just another day of practice.
