Collage. Semi-Spooky Style.
Having fun with purple, yellow, black, and vintage supplies
Behind the Page
I had so much fun collaging the other day that I decided to give it another go today. I’m a huge fan of doing new things a few times in repetition to understand what it is that I really like about the technique/process. I can add things, subtract things, try out the technique with different parameters, wherever I feel like the art is taking me.
And since I’ve already recently been creating with the technique, it feels a lot less draining on my decision-making reserves. Which is great for days where I really don’t feel like deciding a bunch of things. The best thing for your creative habit is to keep going in a way that feels good and makes sense to you. Give yourself days where you can just play and have some fun. These days are essential to keeping up a healthy creative habit and not burning yourself out.
Technique of the Day
Today, I decided that we’d pull different purples and other dark colors so we can continue on with the Halloween theme in my current notebook. After creating my dark colored collage page, I trimmed it down to fit in the notebook and then added this fun little vintage postcard from old-school scrapbook company October Afternoon. I’ve got a few more of these cute postcards, so you’ll see a few other ones in the next few weeks.

Tips & Creative Wisdom
Mix Found Objects with Your Regular Supplies
When you’re collaging, incorporate found objects into your collage for a more unique touch. Think about things like ticket stubs, postcards, book pages, newspaper clippings, packaging, or whatever else you’ve got lying around. Combining everyday items with the stuff you use everyday, like patterned paper or paint, adds texture and tells a deeper story.
Tip: Use a glue stick, double sided roll adhesive, or matte gel medium to secure delicate or oddly shaped items like leaves or fabric scraps, ensuring they stay in place over time.
