Autumn, it has the best colors.

I love the warm tones of fall -- reds and oranges and yellows.

Behind the Page

I’m so into today’s page. I love the colors — it was half a DIY paper I made while cleaning off the paint from my brayer during gel printing. These clean-off prints are some of my absolute favorites from my gel printing sessions. I added a little more dark yellow with some leaf stamps — giving the page even more seasonal flair.

Technique of the Day

Stamping a quote is a little more time consuming than trimming up a card or magazine, definitely more do than just journaling out your quote by hand — but it’s a style that I absolutely love and it looks so good on these DIY gel print pages

Tips & Creative Wisdom

Layer Paint for Depth and Texture

Paint can add incredible depth when you layer it. That’s why adding these lines of paint off the brayer is one of my favorite techniques. It builds up in such an interesting way, and you don’t even need to think about it all that much. You can do this with a brayer, on your gel plate, or just with brushes and palette knives.

Start by laying down a base layer of color, then use other shades to add highlights or shadows. If you’re really into more texture, experiment with applying thick layers, using a palette knife, or even some dry brushing on top. Layers make things a little bit more interesting, both visually and texturally.

Tip: Let each layer dry before adding another to prevent muddy colors. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, add bits of tissue paper between layers for even more texture.
