Behind the Page

We’re continuing on with gel prints today (the big masterclass is tomorrow!). Today I wanted to play with the stuff that I left out on my desk yesterday, in a much more free-flowing way.

It’s a very Friday thing for me to just want to cut shtuff up and glue it down. It’s got relaxing vibes, and definitely what I’m into once the week is winding down.

What is your creative cycle like? Do you have different things that you like working on at different times of the day, week, month, year?

Technique of the Day

On top of the collage, I added this fun little envelope that I’ve had in my stash for a bit now. Envelopes, tags, and other little bits are a great way to test out your mixed media mark making, without making a huge commitment on a page. And then you’ve got unique DIY embellishments that only you could make.

Reflections & Insights

Collage is a great way to use your gel prints. It’s especially good for using up the gel prints that you might not love as a whole page. Once you cut up bits and pieces of it, it’s a lot easier to see how it fits into your art. Mix in patterned paper, washi, stickers, cards, and whatever other bits you have lying around to make your collages completely personal.

I personally love a great collage as the background for a special sticker — like the one I used today from Brandi Kincade.
